We had multi-zone conference. It was a lot of fun to see some of my other missionary friends. Hermana Brown and Hermana Robinson aren't in my zone or the other zone we had conference with but I got to write them letters so that was fun. It was also a lot more fun because I understood so much more this time.
We were walking down the street to an appointment but we had missed a call so Hermana Ostvig got out the phone and was looking at it. We were still walking and so I told her njaque and she didn't hear me and ran right into a tree. I was laughing so hard because that day there was like no one on the streets. It was so dead, but right as she ran into the tree there was this group of guys walking passed and another two guys driving passed on a motorcycle and everyone saw her do it. So they were all like careful. Watch out. It was so funny oh ndirachori jaja.
What else. So we have been teaching Eder, the son of Amelia and he is super super hard to teach. He is super timid and he doesn't like to talk or even look at us but it is so hard to teach him to make sure that he understands everything and we have to teach really slow. He also cant read. But poco a poco. Eder and I are buddies and thanks to my calling in the primary before my mission, it is a lot easier to teach him. We are pretty good friends though and it makes me so happy when I make him laugh. It is so easy to make Paraguayos laugh. But he is great. We taught him Saturday night and after teaching him for months he finally started to talk to my companion just a little bit. He will talk to me but he wont talk to Hermana Ostvig. It is nice that he is adjusting. And Amelia and Nestor are so great. They have been teaching him all the lessons. But we also found this awesome couple. So here in Paraguay, like a lot of third world Latino cultures, no one ever gets married. They just move in together because marriage is too expensive. But this young couple got married only 9 days ago and they have been having lots of problems with their family about there marriage. So we were walking down the street and are lessons fell through. We were walking by and I had contacted them my first week or so in my mission. But I thought why not. We clapped on their door and Gisele said she was really sick and couldn't talk. But she looked really upset. We asked her if we could do anything and she let us in. We started talking and she was telling us how she and her husband Edgar were just wondering where they could find peace. After our lesson we invited Gisele to say the prayer and she said one of the most humble and spiritual prayers. It was so amazing.
They are going to get baptized!
We have this other family that is really awesome that we have been working with. They too are super humble and just want peace. So we were contacting these ladies and they were not interested in what we had to say at all. But we asked them if they knew anyone who we could share our message with. There was a lady sitting outside her house just a little bit down the street and they said yeah you could go share with her. They didn't know her at all they were just trying to get rid of us. We had another lesson to go to so we started to walk in the opposite direction of this lady sitting outside. But Hermana Ostvig stopped and said why don't we contact her. She definitely was listening to the Spirit and I am glad she did. So we walked back and started talking to this lady. Her name is Delma and she has 5 kids. She told us we could sit down so we started to just get to know her and her 14 year old daughter Marlene. We asked who Jesus Christ was for them. Their answers were so humble. We didn't teach them a lesson we just got to know them a little bit and we invited them to be baptized and they both accepted. Without even knowing anything about our church. They said they wanted to follow the example of Christ and that they felt good talking to us. It was so amazing. We have gone back and taught them a little bit more and they are so receptive. They just want to do the right thing.
There has been a lot of rain lately.
It has been about 100 degrees and very humid because of the rain. But this one day we left and it was super sunny. We had some lessons with investigators that live pretty far from our house. So we left to go teach them and we were about half way there when it just started to pour out of no where. Sometimes it only rains for 10 minutes and then stops so we waited under a tree but it was not stopping. We were trying to think what to do because we still weren't very close to our lessons and we had a lot of them in this one area so we didn't want to be soaking wet walking around with out umbrella's or anything. But we were pretty far from the house too. So we were deciding what to do when we remembered there was a menos activo that lived really close and they are always home because she doesn't like to leave the house, the reason she is menos activo. So we set out in the rain and started kinda running to this house. And I had this feeling in my gut she wants home. We clapped her door and I looked at Hermana Ostvig and I knew this was the one time she was not home. We stood there for a minute and yeah she wasn't home. So we started for the house. We figured the rain wasn't going to stop anytime soon and we cant go into peoples houses soaking wet. So we started walking and it was pouring and people were looking at us like we were crazy for walking in the rain. And when it rains here every street becomes a river. Not even a mini river. A river. The street in front of our house is Usher Rios for a reason. So we finally get to our house. And the street is full of water. We had to cross it and it was up to my knees. When we walked into our house we were beyond dripping wet. It had looked like and felt like we went swimming in all of our cloths. But we were losing a lot of time so we change and dried off really fast and got all of our rain gear and set back out. We had wasted a lot of time walking back to our house but it was definitely needed. However I had this feeling that once we left it was going to stop raining. Sure enough we got to the same spot we were at when it started to rain and it had stopped. So now we had all our gear and no rain. But that's okay because we found some good people who weren't in our plans that day because we were in the right place and at the right time. Oh we also contacted this lady and she was just here to visit her sister in law but we started talking to her and it turns out she is receiving the lessons in San Lorenzo where she lives. And guess who the missionaries are that are teaching her. Yep Hermana Robinson. It was really cool to be able to talk to an investigator from my former companion in my area. It was so cool and this lady said she would say hi for us. I am so excited. Also today I have been on my mission for 5 months. WOW. Time flies when you have to direction of time whatsoever. Sunday hardly anyone came to the church. It was raining a lot and kinda hard. And if there is rain or it is slightly cold no one comes to church.
In our ward here, the stake president has this goal for everyone to read the Book Of Mormon from start before stake conference which is in 3 months. They are doing this so the ward can grow closer together and grow their faith. But also so that we can share the gospel with other people. Everyone knows someone who isn't a member or who is a member and isn't coming to church. Elder David A. Bednar gave a great talk about how we always give a prayer that says those who didn't come this week help them to come next week, which is a good prayer, but it is pointless unless we act on the prayer. Act on it and go out and get the people who didn't come and invited them, help them come. This isn't so we are have more members in the church or to convince people to be converted and join our religion. It is so everyone can enjoy the blessings that God has to offer when we sanctify the Sabbath Day. When we follow His commandments. So my challenge for all of you is to start the Book of Mormon. To read from 1 Nephi 1, I Nephi having been born of goodly parents... And to ready the Book of Mormon from cover to cover. You can read the Book of Mormon in 3 months if you read 3 chapters every day. 6 pages no mas. And see how reading everyday will make your day better. Then also invite someone to hear about the Gospel. Invite a friend to come to church or to have the discussions with the missionaries. Spread the Light of Christ. Because it doesn't matter how many times we have ready the Book of Mormon in the past. How many times we have prayed. Every time we do it, the words are the same but we are different. We grow and become better and the same words we have read a thousand times has a whole new meaning. A new strength behind it. I am so grateful to be able to be here on my mission to serve the children of our Heavenly Father and tambien to learn and grow for myself. Thank you for all of your support and love. Also sorry I like have not been sending photos. I got to take more. But today we are going bowling for our activity de distrito again so I should have more next week. Love you all
The computer wont let me send any photos this week but sí o sí I will send lots of photos next week. I love you all
