Highlight of the week Alfredo got baptized!!!! It was so amazing. When he got out of the water he looked so happy. It was so amazing and the service was so pretty. The Spirit was so strong during it. And Nestor y Amelia said the opening and closing prayers! And they did so amazing. And the bishop told us that he had never seen investigators pray in public before. Only after they get baptized. They are so amazing.
Other highlights of this week.
We were walking to an appointment and we walked passed these like 6 construction guys and they were lifting this super big role of wire up a telephone pole. But they weren't getting anywhere. When we walked by we said Hi and then made a joke about like yeah strength! They asked if we were strong and we were like yeah obviously so if you need help. We thought they were kidding but they were like yeah help us. No one in Paraguay asks for help. We asked seriously, and these guys were like yeah help us. So we put our stuff down and started lifting this heavy wire up a telephone pole. It was so funny cause Hermana Robinson and I were lifting and all the 6 guys were trying to pull on this rope to lift it up. It was funny. Then they still weren't getting anywhere but it was like halfway up the pole and the guys told us that's where they wanted it and we could keep walking but thanked us for our help. They told us they wanted it just hanging in the middle of the pole. Jaja it was very different.
Oh it was also Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!.
Man am I glad to have an American companion during the major holidays because it is just so much more fun. For Thanksgiving Hermana Robinson made this chicken curry dish and we made rice bowls and these really good potatoes. It made the house smell like Thanksgiving. It was a lot of fun. Then we ate. Oh we were so full by the end of it. But it was super good. We had these big plans to dress up like an Indian and a Pilgrim but we didn't really have time. But if Thanksgiving was on a p-day then si o si we would have done it jaja.
Something strange that happened this week. We went to an investigators house and she has these two little kids. One is Israel and he is 6 and the other is Lujan and she is 3. But they are handfuls. The mom is always gone at work so they don't really listen to her very much and they are very crazy. So we were talking to the mom and my hands were behind my back holding my Book of Mormon. Israel ran behind me and started hitting the Book of Mormon in my hands. So I moved it and put of my hand and he was hitting my hand. Then he goes up and licks my hand. Before I can think to move it he bites my hand. Okay so I move my hand and look at him. I turn back to talk to his mom and he goes and bites me in the butt. What kind of 6 year old runs around biting people in the butt. The last lesson we had with this family Israel spit in my face twice. Very rarely will you find a Paraguayo who disciplines their kids. But really who bites people in the butt!
So this week we had a baptism and whenever something good like a baptism comes up Satan tries extra hard to stop it. Doesn't matter who it is or how hold or nothing. On Friday we needed to teach Alfredo because he needed one more lesson before he could be baptized on Saturday. We were working really hard to get him this last lesson. But 30 minutes before the lesson he told us that they were going to go play futbol. We told him we needed this lesson and so we would give it to him and then he could play. But then Amelia was sick, so we couldn't teach him in his home and we couldn't teach him at all unless there was a lady there. So we made plans to teach him in the church and he was going to meet us there. We ran home trying to think of who we could ask to come with us. A lady came to mind named Lucia. But she always works on Friday nights. So when we got home we started calling people to see if they could come help us. We called, I swear, like every woman in the ward and either they were working or didn't answer the phone. We were stressing so hard because if we didn't have this lesson, Alfredo couldn't be baptized. After a long time of calling people, we decided to call Lucia just in case and it was her day off and she was just about to leave to go visit some friends but she said she would help us first. She is so amazing! It was such an answer to our prayers. And we had one of the most spiritual lessons with Alfredo that night because we talked about temples. It was very special.
We had to go fill up the baptismal font and when we were crossing it was up to my knees in some of the parts and it had a strong current. And it rained all day. Paraguay kinda shuts down when it rains I was afraid that people wouldn't come to the baptism. We wanted a lot of people to come to have a big welcoming in the church after Alfredo was baptized, to make it really special for him. And it rained and rained and rained some more. Around 4 or so it finally stopped, another answer to pray, and we the baptism was going to start at 6 so we told Alfredo to come at 5:30. Another thing about Paraguayos is they are always late. So we figured if we said 5:30 they would show up right before 6. Well they are not regular Paraguayos because they showed up at 5 and we were studying. So we hurry and got dressed and met them. They were all done up in their Sunday best and looked so good. We took some pictures and it started getting close to 6 and no one was there. We called the people giving talks and they didn't answer. We called the person who were going to perform the baptism and he didn't answer. We called the witness and he said he wouldn't be there till 6Ñ30. It was very stressful because we wanted to have a spiritual experience for Alfredo. But it was a good test on patience. Everyone got there and we started and it was an amazing service. The spirit was very very strong.
Sunday Alfredo received the gift of the Holy Spirit. It was so awesome. The smile on his face was just so pure and I am so happy for him. This gospel is true! It blesses lives, I have seen it. I love you all!!
